What is There Left To Say? Compare and Contrast

Last night, our worst nightmare came true. Donald Trump is not only the Republican nominee, but he delivered a frightening, divisive speech that was completely divorced from the reality in this country right now.

We’ll be spending the next few days watching Reagan speeches and recovering. Next up, the misery of watching Hillary Clinton’s acceptance speech.

In the meantime, enjoy:

Reagan:

“Trust me” government asks that we concentrate our hopes and dreams on one man; that we trust him to do what’s best for us. My view of government places trust not in one person or one party, but in those values that transcend persons and parties. The trust is where it belongs–in the people. The responsibility to live up to that trust is where it belongs, in their elected leaders. That kind of relationship, between the people and their elected leaders, is a special kind of compact.

Trump:

“I alone can fix this.”

How far we have fallen.

Ted Cruz is an American Hero

Ted Cruz is a legend

Ted Cruz was not our first choice for president. He’s not very palatable to the general public and his positions are way extreme. That said, we would have welcomed him as our nominee as, if nothing else, he is a truly authentic conservative Republican. For a moment after the Iowa caucuses (when it appeared that might happen) we were looking forward to seeing him debate Hillary and present his unfiltered vision for a conservative America. And if he could convince 65 million Americans to vote for him in order to win? We were fine with that.

Now, though? With the prospect of a lunatic who reportedly is ready to stab our NATO allies in the back as President? Ted Cruz might as well be Abraham Lincoln. And after the incredible stunt he pulled off at the Republican National Convention he has solidified himself as the only Republican with any semblance of principle or morals.

His speech, was one of the best he ever gave even BEFORE all the drama erupted. He actually succeeded in presenting his conservative principles in a way that could be acceptable to a large percentage of the American public.

Then the demands began for Cruz to endorse the charlatan who has hijacked his beloved Republican party. And the boos started to rain down upon him when it became clear that would not happen. The video screen, as if reflecting the absolutely toxic energy in the room, literally blacked out. As he always does, Cruz soldiered on through to the end, urging everyone to “vote their conscience” and reminding people that principles and values actually matter.

And THEN just the morning after, he doubled down!

In addition to his amazing sound bite about refusing to be a “servile puppy dog” and supporting the man who “maligned” his father and wife, Cruz had this to say:

“It was somewhat dismaying that…some of Donald’s biggest partisans…when they heard that people should vote for someone you can trust to defend our freedom and…the Constitution, immediately began booing.”

That’s a great point, Ted!

Later on, in response to questions from a decidedly pro-Trump crowd, he followed up with:

“We either stand for shared principles, or we’re not worth anything.”

And more:

“If we can’t make the case to the American people that voting for our Party’s nominee is consistent with voting your conscience, is consistent with defending freedom and being faithful to the Constitution, then we are not going to win and we don’t deserve to win.”

Indeed.

A lot of people are claiming that this was just a cynical attempt to position himself for the next election cycle. That may be true. But anyone who knows Ted Cruz’s record, should know that Cruz has, on numerous occasions sacrificed his own political currency for something he believes in.

For example, Ted Cruz is a huge supporter of Israel. Take a look at what happened when he addressed a clearly anti-Israel group of Christians:

Legendary.

Can you imagine what would have happened if he had been doing this since the beginning? If he and Jeb and Rubio and the rest of them had taken a principled stand against this train wreck from the beginning, instead of treating Trump like a sideshow? We would never be in this position to begin with.

Instead one by one, they all surrendered and bent the knee to an imposter. Maybe Trump should not have tried to link Cruz’s father to the Kennedy assassination. Perhaps that was just a bridge too far? Maybe threatening to leak slanderous stories about his wife pushed him over the edge? Or maybe Cruz, like everyone else NOT under Trump’s spell, recognizes that anyone who would behave in this manner is not worthy of the Oval Office.

And if anyone doubts for one minute that Cruz does NOT believe that if the Republican Party gets behind someone they do not trust to defend the Constitution they don’t deserve to win…well, you just have not been paying attention to the guy John Boehner once referred to as “Lucifer” for not falling in line.

But for Cruz to go into the (almost literal) lion’s den and stand his ground, despite a cascade of roars and boos and threats at his expense?

He’s a damn American hero for that.

We should be so lucky as to have ALL of the Republicans do the same.

Convention Clown Show: #RNCinCLE

Empty Area 1

A rebellion, broadcast live on national television. A plagiarized speech, lifted from Michelle Obama, of all people. Open fighting with the Ohio Republican Party. Donald Trump cutting off the most emotional speech of the night because he just HAD to call in to Bill O’Reilly right at that moment to tell the world he is not a racist. Rudy Giuliani ranting and raving in a truly uncharacteristically unhinged manner. Trump’s wife wrapping up the biggest portion of the evening 30 minutes early…followed by a bizarre, meandering Lieutenant General giving the least disciplined speech by a military officer…ever? Video of the convention hall emptying out an hour before the final speaker (arguably the evening’s biggest political star) goes onstage.

No one wants to see this clown show anymore.

Another view of the Republican National Convention.

What a joke.

Of course, this in and of itself isn’t surprising, we’ve been saying for weeks that this convention was destined to be a punch line. Like the candidacy of the nominee, there was no substance to even the speeches that were delivered on time. All sizzle, no steak. And when we get to Thursday night, you can be sure that the grill will be just as devoid of real meat. Just “win win win win win, America is a post-apocoplyptic wasteland full of idiots and losers but I’m going to make us win win win win win win win win.”

How Donald Trump see America in 2016.

How Donald Trump see America in 2016.

What is surprising – even to us – is just how poor the production of the day was. Say what you will about Donald Trump, the man knows how to put on a show, as evidenced by his crazy Chris Jericho-esqe entrance. Aside from that moment (while off-putting in its lavishness was still striking), nearly everything else was a mess. Even the timing was poor with the headliner (Melania) being followed by the worst speaker of the evening.

Trump’s one basic strength throughout his entire life has been that he knows how to project the image of himself that he wants you to see.

Yet there was his wife, who to her credit gave people something else to talk about aside from the convention floor rebellion and UNRELENTING doom and gloom of every speaker that preceded her, reading portions of Michelle Obama’s speech from 2008! No one had five minutes to take her speech and run it through a FREE Grammerly check?

Go ahead and try it now for yourselves. Here is just one of the paragraphs in question:

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

So the one thing Trump is supposedly legendary at – that we KNOW he is good at, simply due to the fact that he is where he is right now – putting on a strong show…he can’t even manage to pull that off DURING THE FIRST DAY OF HIS CONVENTION! It’s just another example of the continuing incompetence of the most unready for office party nominee, quite possibly in HISTORY.

These aren’t simple missteps from a novice politician that can be corrected as the Trump campaign continues to mature. They reflect directly on the man’s inattention to detail. This is supposed to be his time. And you know what? It is. This who Trump always has been and always will be.

And all of you who voted for Trump, who said “just wait until he gets started on Hillary” – you are getting precisely what you deserve.

John Weaver, Kasich’s senior political adviser, said the attacks were clearly coordinated, adding it was “symptomatic of what’s coming out of the Trump campaign.”

Weaver also called the Trump campaign a “clown show.”

The Clown Show Continues

You got that right.

#DumpTrump is Dead. Long Live #GOPWithHer.

We never thought it had much of a chance, unfortunately. It was a valiant effort from our brothers and sisters at the convention floor today and during the Rules Committee meetings last week, but it’s been clear for a long time that Donald Trump has some kind of horrific blackmail images of Reince Preibus assaulting a baby seal while pledging allegiance to the Taliban.

This website was set up in May, with the sincerest hope that we would never actually reach this point. We have been dreading this every moment of every day since the Indiana primary farce.

And yet, here we are.

It's going to be a long couple of weeks.

It’s going to be a long couple of weeks.

Now what, guys? There’s no one left to stop this insanity. The fight on the floor of the convention at least showed the world that we are NOT a united party. So there’s that. But it’s time to get serious.

With word out there from Trump’s ghostwriter that if he wrote “The Art of the Deal” today he would call it “The Sociopath,” what are we to do? Fall in line with these Soviet-style tactics from the Republican “leadership” ? Vote for Donald Trump to gain command of the most powerful military in the history of humanity? NO THANK YOU.

It may take a lot of alcohol, but we’re with her.

Embrace the horror and keep checking back here for updates from us as we live blog our way through what is sure to be a disgusting Donald Trump nomination acceptance speech on Thursday night.

Oh and if you’re out there today (or any other day) chanting “We want Trump” – you are a huge tool. Vote for the guy grudgingly if you must, but to be INSPIRED by this con man thief? GTFO of here.

SPOILER ALERT: Did Incompetent Trump Campaign Just Leak His VP Pick?

Mike-Pence-Newt-Gingrich-jpg

As Vice President speculation enters a fever pitch just days before the Trump National Convention, the New York Times just released the speaking schedule for the event.

Aside from the mind-boggling array of second rate politicians, B-list celebrities, washed up sports “stars” and other non-leaders, a very curious schedule appears for Wednesday night:

Night 3: Ms. Bondi; Ms. Collins; Newt Gingrich, a former House speaker; Senator Ted Cruz of Texas; Eric Trump; Ms. Gulbis; and the nominee for vice president.

So Newt Gingrich, “a former House speaker” is going on before Ted Cruz and a few others…before “the nominee for vice president” ends the evening.

But we’ve been told that essentially the “who’s more willing to sell their soul” search was down to Gingrich and Mike Pence. So if Gingrich is speaking earlier in the evening BEFORE the nominee for vice president…wouldn’t that mean that Pence would be the guy?

If nothing else it almost certainly eliminates Gingrich as an option.

Looks like Pence is the guy and Trump caved in to his children’s recommendation over his own gut instinct.

UPDATE: Politico just released the “official” speaking list. Flynn, Christie and Gingrich are all listed. Pence is not. This adds further fuel to the speculation that Pence is a “surprise” speaker, which would be the case of he was the VP pick.

UPDATE 2: Here’s the full list of speakers (notice who’s missing):

Phil Ruffin
Congressman Ryan Zinke
Pat Smith
Mark Geist
John Tiegen
Congressman Michael McCaul
Sheriff David Clarke
Congressman Sean Duffy
Darryl Glenn
Senator Tom Cotton
Karen Vaughn
Governor Mike Huckabee
Mayor Rudy Giuliani
Melania Trump
Senator Joni Ernst
Kathryn Gates-Skipper
Marcus Luttrell
Dana White
Governor Asa Hutchinson
Attorney General Leslie Rutledge
Michael Mukasey
Andy Wist
Senator Jeff Sessions
Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn
Alex Smith
Speaker Paul Ryan
Congressman Kevin McCarthy
Kerry Woolard
Senator Shelley Moore Capito
Dr. Ben Carson
Co-Chair Sharon Day
Natalie Gulbis
Kimberlin Brown
Antonio Sabato, Jr.
Peter Thiel
Eileen Collins
Senator Ted Cruz
Newt Gingrich
Michelle Van Etten
Lynne Patton
Eric Trump
Harold Hamm
Congressman Chris Collins
Brock Mealer
Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn
Governor Mary Fallin
Darrell Scott
Lisa Shin
Governor Rick Scott
Chairman Reince Priebus
Tom Barrack
Ivanka Trump
Attorney General Pam Bondi
Jerry Falwell Jr.
Rabbi Haskel Lookstein
Chris Cox
Senator Mitch McConnell
Tiffany Trump
Governor Chris Christie
Donald J. Trump Jr.
Governor Scott Walker

UPDATE 3: What a bunch of losers. Aside from Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and mayyyyybe Tom Cotton or Jodi Ernst, which of these speakers would be appealing to a real conservative? Jeff Sessions? Paul Ryan (no doubt with a gun to his head)? Important corollary to that – remove anyone who hasn’t been relevant for the past 10 years. This is the most radioactive nominee we have ever had. And anyone who voted for Trump in primaries should be ashamed of themselves.
